Client Accountant

Southend-on-Sea, Essex

The Client Accountant is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the accounting function for the company's clients. This role involves ensuring the accuracy and compliance of financial records, managing client relationships, and contributing to the strategic growth of the business.

The Job
Key responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the Accounting Function: Managing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Client Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, acting as a key point of contact for their accounting needs, and addressing any issues or concerns.
  • Financial Compliance and Risk Management: Ensuring compliance with all relevant accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies, as well as implementing risk management strategies to mitigate financial risks.
  • Financial Reporting: Ensure the integrity and timely delivery of internal and external financial reports including budgets and VAT reporting.
  • Service Charge Accounting: Prepare, coordinate and finalise service charge accounts including liaising with auditors, directors and property owners.
  • Ad-hoc Projects: Assist with financial integration of new sites, FTT preparation, ceased handovers and occasional out of the office client meetings.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Proven experience in a senior client or property accounting role
  • Strong knowledge of property service charge accounting
  • Familiarity with property management software (e.g., MRI, TRAMPS, Yardi, or similar)
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Applicants must be either ACA or ACCA qualified

The Person

The Job
You will play an important role in delivering maintenance, repair, and refurbishment works across our managed portfolio. You will plan and manage works from inception to completion, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standard.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning, managing, and delivering facilities and refurbishment projects from start to finish, conducting site surveys, assessing requirements, and preparing work specifications.
  • Obtaining and reviewing quotations, ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with company policies.
  • Scheduling and overseeing works to ensure timely completion, quality standards, and minimal disruption to residents or building operations.
  • Monitoring project progress and resolving any on-site issues promptly, maintaining accurate records of budgets, schedules, and progress reports.
  • Coordinating and supervising approved contractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance with all health and safety legislation, risk assessments, and company procedures.
  • Conducting site inductions, inspections, and audits to verify compliance and workmanship standards, addressing any performance issues where necessary.

What You Need
We are looking for someone with:

  • Experience in managing property or facilities projects.
  • A strong understanding of building services, maintenance, and construction works.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and CDM Regulations.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Recognised qualification in construction, project management, or building services (e.g. SMSTS, IOSH, IACCM, or equivalent) (desirable).
  • Experience within property or block management (desirable).

The Person

  • Undertaking detailed property inspections on a quarterly/six monthly basis (dependant on property type) which take into consideration all aspects of the property, both internally and externally.
  • Following inspection, preparing relevant reports, recording outcomes, and proposals of next steps and timescales for completion of works.
  • Liaising with the Property Management team in relation to any issues/concerns.
  • Undertaking other general property checks such as meter readings, checking the operation of fire doors, checking emergency lights, bin stores, gardens, drives, lifts and electronic gates and ensuring they are operational.
  • Diary management.
  • Actively promoting a safe working culture and compliance with all relevant Health and Safety and other statutory requirements

It is essential for this role that you are able to drive, so a full, clean UK driving licence is a must. Our properties are located throughout the UK, therefore, there will be a requirement to spend nights away, sometimes for a week at a time.
