Achieving professional status: Congratulations to Amy
We’re delighted to report that Amy Childs, one of our Property Managers, has passed the Foundation exam for membership to the Institute of Residential Property Management (IRPM).
Amy has been preparing for the industry qualification since her first days at Gateway: “Due to the nature of my role, studying is part of my everyday working life,” she explains. “Many of the questions that came up in the exam were ones that I had already dealt with while looking after either a client, leaseholder, site member or contractor. I’m never not studying or learning on the job.”
IRPM’s Foundation exam comprises an hour’s worth of multiple-choice questions, covering the broad areas of property management, customer service and personal development. “Passing the Foundation stage has inspired me to move to the next level and study to become an Associate member,” says Amy. IRPM Foundation is the first exam Amy has sat since leaving sixth form in June 2015. “The support has been fantastic across the company, especially from the team I’m part of and my Associate Director, Carly.”
Amy enjoys the ‘best of both words’ that comes with being a property manager. “I work in a fast-paced, versatile environment. It’s not just an office-based job and every day is different. I love being able to visit the sites under my management and meet the residents that I have direct contact with on a day-to-day basis. I enjoy the challenges, the responsibilities and the methodical approach necessary for me to deliver the best possible service.” Managing a property requires much more than repairing bricks and mortar, adds Amy. “The role brings together an array of skills and knowledge, encompassing financial management and accounting, human resources, building construction, health and safety, legislation and environmental sustainability, and demands a fair amount of common sense.”
Gateway wishes Amy well. We’ll be behind her all the way as she progresses further.
